BITSAT 2027 Eligibility Criteria: What You Must Know

Unlike many other national-level entrance examinations, BITS Pilani maintains strict eligibility requirements. Candidates who fail to meet the exact aggregate percentage in their Class 12 board examinations will be disqualified during counseling, regardless of their entrance exam score.

1. Educational Qualifications & Board Performance

  • Passing Year: Candidates must have passed their Class 12 (10+2) or equivalent examination in 2026 or be appearing in 2027. Students who passed Class 12 in 2025 or earlier are not eligible for BITSAT 2027.

  • PCM/PCB Requirement for B.E.: Candidates opting for Bachelor of Engineering (B.E.) programs must have taken Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics as compulsory subjects in Class 12.

  • Pharmacy Programs (B.Pharm): Candidates must have passed Class 12 with Physics, Chemistry, and Biology/Mathematics.

  • English Proficiency: English must be a compulsory subject in Class 11 and Class 12.

2. Strict Aggregate Percentage Thresholds

  • 75% Aggregate Rule: Candidates must secure a minimum total aggregate of 75% marks in Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics (or Biology for B.Pharm) combined.

  • 60% Individual Rule: Candidates must secure at least 60% marks individually in Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics/Biology.

  • Board Toppers Direct Admission Scheme: First-rank holders (Rank 1) of any central or state board in India receive direct admission to the program of their choice, bypassing BITSAT scores, provided they meet the basic PCM/PCB percentage criteria.

BITSAT 2027 Exam Pattern and Marking Scheme

BITSAT is a speed-based computer-based test (CBT). While JEE Main tests deep numerical analysis across 75 questions in 3 hours, BITSAT evaluates both speed and accuracy with 130 questions over the same duration.

The Bonus Questions Advantage

If a candidate answers all 130 questions before the 3-hour timer expires (without skipping any), the test system unlocks 12 Bonus Questions (3 from Physics, 3 from Chemistry, 3 from Mathematics/Biology, and 3 from Logical Reasoning/English).

Once a student opts for the bonus questions, they cannot return to revise any of the original 130 questions.

1. Mathematics (40 Questions / 120 Marks)

Mathematics carries the highest weightage (~31%). Questions are generally straight-to-the-point but calculation-intensive.

  • High-Weightage Topics: Algebra (Matrices, Determinants, Complex Numbers), Differential & Integral Calculus, Vectors & 3D Geometry, Coordinate Geometry (Circles, Straight Lines).

  • Preparation Tip: Memorize standard formulas and shortcut techniques for integration and limits to save time.

2. Physics (30 Questions / 90 Marks)

Physics tests conceptual clarity and numerical speed.

  • High-Weightage Topics: Modern Physics, Mechanics, Current Electricity, Electrostatics, Optics, Magnetism, Waves & Thermodynamics.

  • Preparation Tip: Focus on formula applications and direct standard numerical problems rather than long derivation proofs.

3. Chemistry (30 Questions / 90 Marks)

Chemistry is often the most time-efficient section for boosting total scores.

  • High-Weightage Topics: Organic Chemistry (Reaction Mechanisms, Named Reactions), Physical Chemistry (Electrochemistry, Thermodynamics, Kinetics), Inorganic Chemistry (p-Block, d-Block, Coordination Compounds).

  • Preparation Tip: Master NCERT line-by-line for Inorganic and Organic Chemistry to answer non-numerical questions quickly.

4. English Proficiency & Logical Reasoning (30 Questions / 90 Marks)

Combined, Part III accounts for 90 marks (~23% of the total score). Ignoring this section can cost candidates a rank.

  • English Topics: Vocabulary (Synonyms/Antonyms), Sentence Completion, Grammar Rules, Reading Comprehension, Error Spotting.

  • Logical Reasoning Topics: Pattern Recognition, Series Completion, Syllogisms, Figure Matrix, Chart Paths, Data Sufficiency.

  • Preparation Tip: Dedicate 30 minutes daily to practice non-verbal reasoning patterns and review grammar rules.
