Established in 1996 by the Government of Maharashtra, the Government College of Engineering, Chandrapur (GCOEC) is a key technical hub in the energy-rich region of Vidarbha.
The institute is located on a sprawling 62-acre campus near the Chandrapur Super Thermal Power Station, providing students with unique exposure to the heavy industry and power sectors. GCOEC is affiliated with Gondwana University and is fully funded by the state government. It offers undergraduate B.E. programs in 6 branches, including Instrumentation Engineering—a rare and highly specialized department in the state. The 2025-26 placement drive recorded a highest domestic package of ₹15 LPA, with a steady average CTC of ₹3.5 LPA, drawing recruiters like Adani Power, TCS, Infosys, and Cognizant. The college is famous for its "CIIIT" (Center for Invention, Innovation, Incubation and Training) lab in collaboration with Tata Technologies.
