Key Details of CAP Round 2 Allotment List 2026

The release of the CAP Round 2 Allotment List marks a major milestone for thousands of engineering aspirants across Maharashtra. Allotments are determined based on multiple critical factors:

  • MHT CET / JEE Main Percentile: Merit ranks established by the CET Cell.

  • Option Form Order of Preference: The exact sequential priority of college-branch combinations entered by candidates between August 7 and August 9, 2026.

  • Category and Sub-Category Reservations: SC, ST, VJ/DT-NT, OBC, SBC, EWS, PwD, Defense, TFWS, and Female quota reservations.

  • Seat Matrix Availability: Unfilled seats remaining after CAP Round 1 along with seats vacated due to non-reporting or non-acceptance.

Candidates receiving an allotment for the first time in Round 2, as well as those who secured a higher preference than their Round 1 allotment, must execute their seat acceptance decisions within the stipulated five-day window.

1. Auto-Freeze Rule

If you are allotted a seat corresponding to your 1st, 2nd, or 3rd preference in CAP Round 2, the system will automatically freeze the seat.

  • Action Required: Pay the seat acceptance fee online (if not paid in Round 1) and report physically to the allotted college by August 17, 2026.

  • Implication: Such candidates are ineligible to participate in CAP Round 3. Failure to report will result in the loss of the allotted seat.

2. Self-Freeze Option

If you receive an allotment lower than your top 3 preferences but are satisfied with the college and branch:

  • Action Required: Log in to your profile, select the Freeze option, accept the declaration, pay the seat acceptance fee, and report to the institute.

  • Implication: Your admission is confirmed at this college, and you opt out of subsequent counselling rounds.

3. Betterment (Not Freeze / Float) Option

If you receive an allotment lower than your top 3 preferences and wish to try for a higher preference in CAP Round 3 while retaining your current seat:

  • Action Required: Select the Not Freeze / Betterment option on the portal and pay the seat acceptance fee (₹1,000) if you are receiving an allotment for the first time.

  • Implication: Your Round 2 seat is held safely in reserve. If you secure a higher preference in CAP Round 3, your Round 2 seat is automatically canceled and transferred. If you do not get an upgrade in Round 3, your Round 2 seat remains intact.

Step-by-Step Seat Acceptance and Online Fee Payment Process

Candidates receiving a seat for the first time in CAP Round 2 must complete the online seat acceptance process between August 13 and August 17, 2026:

  1. Log in to Candidate Dashboard: Access fe2026.mahacet.org using your Application ID and Password.

  2. Data Verification: Verify personal details including category, gender, PwD status, home university, and HSC/MHT CET marks displayed on the seat acceptance screen.

  3. Self-Verification Confirmation: Confirm that the claims made in your application match your original certificates. If you notice any error, submit a grievance online via your candidate dashboard.

  4. Choose Seat Status: Select Freeze or Not Freeze (Betterment) based on your preference.

  5. Pay Seat Acceptance Fee:

    • Fee Amount: ₹1,000 (non-refundable processing fee).

    • Payment Mode: Net Banking, UPI, Credit Card, or Debit Card.

    • Note: Candidates who paid the seat acceptance fee during CAP Round 1 do not need to pay it again.

  6. Download Receipt: Print the Seat Acceptance Confirmation Slip along with the fee payment receipt.

Physical Reporting & Document Verification at Allotted Institutes

Candidates who opt for Freeze (or receive Auto-Freeze) must report physically to their allotted college between August 13 and August 17, 2026 (up to 5:00 PM) to finalize admission.

Steps at the Allotted Institute:

  1. Document Submission: Present original documents along with two sets of self-attested photocopies.

  2. Institute Fee Payment: Pay the balance tuition and development fees via Demand Draft (DD), online transfer, or net banking as specified by the institute.

  3. System Confirmation: The institute will verify your original documents and generate an Admission Confirmation Receipt from the State CET Cell portal.

  4. Retention of Receipt: Ensure you receive a stamped and signed admission confirmation receipt before leaving the institute counter.

Important Warning: If a candidate fails to report physically with original documents and fee payment receipts by August 17, 2026, their allotment will be automatically canceled. The seat will be marked vacant for CAP Round 3.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

How can I access the CAP Round 2 Allotment List 2026 online?

You can access the official CAP Round 2 Allotment List 2026 by logging in to the State CET Cell portal at fe2026.mahacet.org using your Application ID and Password or Date of Birth.

Can I switch from "Not Freeze" (Betterment) to "Freeze" after Round 2 allotment?

Once you select the "Not Freeze" (Betterment) option and pay the seat acceptance fee on the portal, you cannot manually alter that choice to "Freeze" for the current round. However, if you secure a higher preference in CAP Round 3, that newly allotted seat will be processed according to standard option rules.

What happens if I am allotted a seat in my top 3 preferences in CAP Round 2?

If you are allotted a seat corresponding to your 1st, 2nd, or 3rd preference in CAP Round 2, the system automatically applies the Auto-Freeze rule. You must pay the seat acceptance fee and report to the allotted institute by August 17, 2026. You will not be eligible to participate in CAP Round 3.

What should I do if my original certificates are held up by my board or university?

If your original certificates are delayed due to board processes, you can submit a formal undertaking letter signed by an authorized school/college authority. This allows provisional admission subject to submitting the original documents before the final institutional cutoff date.
