Ever since The Walt Disney Company acquired 21st Century Fox, comic book fans have eagerly anticipated the official arrival of Children of the Atom in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. While Marvel Studios spent the Multiverse Saga dropping mutant breadcrumbs across Ms. Marvel, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, The Marvels, and Deadpool & Wolverine, the main event has arrived.

At D23 2026: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event on August 14, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige took the stage to pull back the curtain. Joined by director Jake Schreier, Feige unveiled the principal ensemble cast, confirmed the central villain, and established an official theatrical release date for the untitled mutant feature.

Here is Marvel Studios' X-Men: Everything We Know So Far regarding cast, plot inspirations, and theatrical placement.

Release Date, Story Inspirations, and MCU Integration

Marvel Studios confirmed that the untitled X-Men feature will release exclusively in theaters on May 5, 2028.

The project serves as the anchor for Phase 7 and the post-Avengers: Secret Wars landscape. Rather than using multiverse incursions to transfer legacy Fox characters permanently into the mainline Earth-616, this film builds a ground-up foundation for mutantkind.

Director Jake Schreier noted that the creative team drew heavily from Chris Claremont’s iconic 1980s run as well as Jonathan Hickman’s House of X / Powers of X era, focusing on comic storylines that have not yet been adapted to the big screen.
